some of the most famous monster hoax's are most of the time are two creatures sewn together like mermaids were people usually take the body of a fish and the torso of a small monkey to create what appearer to be a mermaid  the example bellow is such that  totally fake but quite convincing since it is two real animals sewn together then left to mummified/dried out to get the effect  of a real monster.

the chupacabra is another hoax/legend it is said that something that looks like a dog or pig is seen wandering around killing of livestock and other animal nobody knows what it is and there has been plenty of sightings of the animal and people have found dead animals when people have killed them to protect grazing sheep or cows , but different to other hoaxes these are not man made, they're in fact coyotes with mange and other skin conditions resulting in  loss of hair and body fat making them look  like some monster or creature of supernatural origin

Another Hoax is the sasquatch which is an most definitely a hoax which has spanned a large base of people who still believe it is real and go out looking for the creature but all photo evidence of the sasquatch is people dressed it gorilla suites or fury outfits to make themselves look credible and more like the legendary hoax but it is still one of the most famous creatures born from a hoax since Nessie.

Nessie/loch ness monster  is according to accounts dating back to late Victorian Britain is a dinosaur living in the famous loch ness there have been numerous attempts to locate nessie but all attempts have come back saying nothing lives in the loch  and sightings of the monster still come flooding in today the first Hoax was created using a hippo foot that have been made into a umbrella stand another has been said to be a log in the shape of a monster.
