William morris is a champion socialist who was a member of the arts and craft movement and created a lot of wallpapers and tapestry's along with being a avid poet and questioned the norm including looking at Gothic buildings and went against the industrial revolution and looked at the natural beauty of the country and spent the most of his childhood on grand country estates that's to his father's social standing and investment in a copper mine which he gained a lot of wealth from in which William thought was not rightfully earned and he felt that they didn't deserve that kind of money.
Early after his father passed away at 50 his mother sent him the oldest of 8 children to a school that supported theology he refers it to a boy farm however the children revolted and she brought him out after he worked hard and got into Oxford and he dropped the church and became a architect a shock to his mother and William worked for rosette and founding artist for the preraffelites he later gave up the career of and architect and became a painter.
In 1857 he was back in Oxford to paint a ceiling of the union society and he employed a great number of artists and they painted le morte d'arther the painting/murial they had the idea to romanticise the middle ages and the book was their bible.
A chance meeting changed his life and this is where he met Jane burn the daughter of a ossler he asked her to sit for him they became engaged the following spring April 26 1859. He built his house called Red House for his new found love which he kept plane and stark in white wash mostly used for servants quartets but he liked it that way he couldn't put wallpaper because he hadn't made any yet.
He worked on his poems which he read out loud his voice so hypnotic his wife Janey had to stick pins in her hands to keep himself awake he became famous much to his friend discontent he bought a wombat for his garden which they named topsy due to it being short round fat and hair much like morris himself.
Janey was becoming lethargic and you can see her becoming inverted in herself and this came be seen in many of his paintings and drawings, and she didn't like morris (however together they had two children Jane Alice (Janey) and may) people were talking about the closeness and a supposed affair with Rossetti and his daughter jenny Morris born January 1861, 18 months after the marriage was found to be epileptic seizures.
His good friend rossette had became addicted to the sedative chloral hydrate after his wife died and after he passed asking for some sketch's and books to be burned after his death as not to tarnish his reputation as he was a very religious man and morris mourned for the death of his friend. They took him to birchington-on-sea a popular seaside town where people would go cleanse and relax.
Janey had moved on to another lover a notorious womaniser just 2 years later and the lover didn't realy love her and did it because he idolised rossette and pictured him there weirdly as they made love......
In December 1884 he marched out a meeting with a following and started his own movement the socialist league. He did them absolutely no good and they totally took over him and he became an outcast to society he told someone that h was surrounded by the silence of stupidity, basically he told the man to shut up
A quote by William morris
Have nothing in house that you do not know to be useful or to be beautiful
